Did you have as hard a time as i am? Though i know the tune really well, i am havinga hard time getting it under my fingers. I had an easier time tith tricotism, fwiw.

some are easier than others...
as you mentioned...some tunes written for "other" instruments have riffs that are awkward in their fingering for guitar...
transposing to another key will help depending on the riffs...but "Move" is written in Bb right..
just keep at it...something of a challenge is worth the effort..
time on the instrument..pierre
It's a bit rough for me too at high tempos, which is almost always how it's played. Don't despair. It's harmonically simplistic, so that's a plus. Here's some inspiration. Don't get discouraged:

"Tricotism", though more complex harmonically, isn't usually taken at the blistering speed that "Move" is. "Move" played slowly is boring, it's not as cool of a line as "Tricotism" IMHO. But, practice it slowly. You'll get it.
Love this, BTW: Tricrotism | Define Tricrotism at Dictionary.com
They don't spell it exactly that way, but that's what the title supposedly derived from.

Funny you should mention that tune - I just picked up a Miles Davis CD yesterday at the local downtown used record store that has Move on it (album is "Godschild"). Great tune, lovely instrumentation and arranging (it's got to be Gil Evans, right?). But harmonically, it seems like it's basically rhythm changes without the bridge, just a modulation (to the IV?).
Dijos, do you know how to play over rhythm changes?

can't help you if the right hand is your problem, as i play classical style (assuming you use a pick), but i can share my left hand fingerings if that would help...takes some dedication to get it up to speed...

it is in Bb; I'm moving mostly horizontally, and only between the 5th fret and 10th fret. I've tried to do it more vertically too, hitting the 13th for the eb and Bb instead, but I will appreciate any help.
I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem to follow the rhythm changes to me. I'm following the transcription it the 557 standards book. it reads as Bb6/eb7/Bb6/fo/cmi7/f7/Bbmaj7/Bb6.
The reason I say it's like rhythm changes is because it's got that distinctive chromatically-ascending bass line. From a soloing perspective, that section should be identical.
Forget the real book - what do your ears tell you?

Hey Jeff
It was written by Denzil Best and arranged by John Lewis who played on the Birth Of The Cool album.
It's not really "rhythm changes" per say.. more like this.. I-IV7-I-VI7-ii-V-I
The bridge is the classic "montgomery ward bridge". Like Satin Doll

Love this tune!
I play it in the higher octave around the 11th fret, and in the lower octave around 3rd fret, pretty much staying in position except to stretch for a couple notes. With economy picking and a few hammer-ons, the only thing hard about it is the tempo!
And yes I think the changes in 557 Jazz Standards is correct.

Great tune!! Anybody want to share fingerlings? Maybe that could give the OP a few ideas.
Make a forum project out of it?

The Ab to G on the 2nd string I play as a first finger shift.
You can see in the video above, Julian Lage is playing it pretty much the same except he seems to shift down for the phrase at the end of the A section.
