Default thoughts on this?

as a bass player, I really dig the bass solo. All of my friends are totally into this stuff, honestly, I can't dig it. As I am not a huge fan of fusion music or pop music. They have talent though, that's for sure.

What do you guys think of this sweetish sensation sweeping the interwebs?

I apologize if this is a repeat thread.

The solo wasn't all that long. There's been sort of a limited market for really long solos since about the early 80's. I used to love Weather Report way back when, in my too-long solo days.
These days I just stick to my Django-type stuff and Billy Holliday. For 'fusion' I thought Jeff Beck brought the house down at the R&R Hall of Fame recently but this song here just doesn't do much for me. They're obviously capable musicians though.

I've seen these guys on the Ytubes before. In fact, one of the best bass players I know was the one who showed this to me, BUT, I'm kind of with you that I find it underwhelming.

HERE'S THE thing. I like ideas like this, reharmonizing and rearranging pop songs, I think it's cool, but my problem with this specific group is actually feel they are too tame and unoriginal in their arrangements. I think rhythmically it could be a lot crazier and more syncopated, with drum beats that are less obvious.

Something that I actually like about this style is that it opens itself up to "over"production and some elements reaching extreme degrees (syncopation, vocal range, extended chords, unique chord structures, etc) and on all the clips I've seen, this group hasn't delivered (for my personal tastes) in this regard. But I suppose that's just a listener's preference. They seem like they'd be quite capable of pushing the envelope a bit more.

Probably, but that wouldn't really suit the style, would it?

I've listened to this track repeatedly and enjoyed it a lot. I enjoy well-crafted music.

I think the bass player is a chick. Their musicianship was much better than the videographer, that's for sure. I didn't hate it. Pop music with a bit of an edge. The song sucks, (to an old jazzer like me) but they did make a lot of music.

I wasn't as offended by it as I was by that dude sticking a drum stick under his strings and slapping at it. (Just messin' with ya'll)
