Help Working on a cruise ship - is it a good gig?

Hey guys

Thinking about auditioning as a showband musician with proship.

Anybody have any advice to offer? - what's life like for a guitarist, what are the charts really like?

Im a fairly confident reader - NOT AMAZING! Can cope fine with chord charts with accents and simple melodies etc, really struggle with reading stuff from the omnibook up to a good speed (I know the answer is to practice reading, but just want to know what the charts are like on board!) I'm comfortable to play in most styles , did my degree in jazz and gig regularly in my home town.

Would love it if some of you guys could shed some light on the mystery of what the charts are like on the ships and maybe even upload a few examples if you have any?!

Ive checked out the example audition charts on proship site and they are fine, I'm just really worried the charts on board will be much more difficult!

Thanks in advance guys!

There is very good info at this site, about working on a ship. Probably don't have to read as well as a pit guitarist.

Yes, there are several sites out there if you do a Google search that give the reality of life as a musician on a cruise ship, and I think you could search the forums here as well. It's been discussed before.
