Default IPad/Iphone Metronomes

So after using my Iphone4s and downloading several different metronome apps, I've come to the conclusion that their metronomes noticeably speed up and slow down depending on the app (no, it's not me. Yes, I'm sure), not to mention cut out whenever you get a text or an email. Has anybody here experience the same problems?

Some of them are quite poor, especially the free/cheap ones. I've found Tempo Advance to be quite good though, and talked about it more in a recent thread, you might want to check that out.

As for cutting out, I almost always put my iPhone into airplane mode when using any sort of music apps. It cuts down on potential radio interference/noise, and if you've amplified the iPhone, perhaps playing over iReal b backing, it can sure be startling to get a rather loud phone call! It also helps the battery life a bit, which those music apps tend to drain quickly to start with.

Just tried that out. It's not as bad, but it still does it. I'd say maybe there's something up with the phone- but everything else is working great. I guess it's back to the old Franz Electric metronome.

That's odd - what are you doing to test/notice this, and how obvious is it? I was curious, so I did a small test myself against my old Korg MA-30, and it matched up at a variety of tempos for a few minutes. I suppose there's a chance it's your iPhone, or perhaps some other app(s) you have running in the background. Either way, sorry it didn't work out for you, at least these things are still quite cheap compared to all the other music gear we buy!

I'm not using anything to compare, rather its very obvious when the tempo changes by about 20 BPM. I've closed all other apps, but still have that problem
