| | Glimmer of UK Hope A glimmer of hope in a crazy world. The Live Music Forum - Live Music Bill - something weird happened
This new UK legislation should mean small music venues will be able to afford to employ musicians, and amateur music groups will be able to find places to meet up and practice.

| | No responce! I'm used to it. Perhaps there are no other UK players on this forum, so this might not mean much to most. I have read threads here where people actually thought lisencing live music was a good idea. I have heard the Australians are not particularly impressed by it. Well I hope that it will inspire cultural growth in my own country.
Here I go again, editing my post. Seems I'm on the wrong forum.

| | I got the thread mate. This is fabulous news, this means I can legally play in pubs without causing any problems and who knows I might get a free beer or two!

| | Here's a shout out at all the UK forum members!
This is a good move for semi pro musicians out there. We've all been in pubs with a bland Karioke machine and warbler, we all sat there griping into our pints. Well lets do something about it!
Jazz trio's
Blues duo's
Singer songwriters
Richard Clayderman and Bobby Crush, now is our time!!!
Get your skates on, push that bastard karioke out of the pubs and bring back real music!

| | It hasn't yet become law, but it should do some time this year. Keep your eye on The Live Music Forum I linked to earlier. They have been campaigning about this for years.

| | Just read that. I'm not from the UK and was unaware of how impossible you folks have had it over there. Ridiculous government regulations!
Hope it all works out for you.

Hope it all works out for you. | Talk about archaic laws over here, did you know that until recently it was law in England that every man of fit age must practice archery! (I guess that's why we have darts in pubs). Golf was banned in Scotland in the 1400's so that archery skills could be preserved. Also if you are a licensed cab driver you could urinate in public providing you urinate on the wheel of your vehicle!
For the old steam empire the UK once was, we're kinda stuck in the 1800's and that can be an absolute arse (ass) ache.
In a local pub we have music sessions, mainly folk and blues. Being 25 minutes away from the Police station live music is tolerated so long as there isn't any trouble. It's only the tight wads that spoil the fun.

| | Change in Uk pub music licensing Time for a tribute to the uk musicians union here! Without their persistence in lobbying both the previous Labour and the present coalition government, we wouldn't have got this change. It certainly should mean more small-combo work for us jazzers, but remember folks, we may need to be part of the process of educating pub owners and managers, and letting them know the change is happening. So get out there and start selling, ladies and gents. And thanks MU, of which I'm happy to be a member. |
