Default Mental Practice

How amazing is it to be able to practice guitar mentally? Several times while I'm watching TV I remember totally zoning out and making up licks, visualizing my fingers and picking hand playing them, and I grabbed my guitar and I played it just like I had imagined.

I did that when I was practicing Bird's Confirmation (head+solo) from the OmniBook. One time it was in a movie theater! Haha, I love being able to do that, especially when you don't have a guitar with you.

The only problem with this for me is that I can only do it at certain times. These times are the moments when I have something to WORK on. Like memorizing the Confirmation solo, or a head from a tune, or learning the same lick but on a different string set. I can't just Mental Noodle, which is probably a good thing because that's just a waste of time.

Had an interesting experience when I was just starting with guitar and working on triad inversions. Once when I was driving home in a car back seat(about 3 hours), I was mentally practicing triad inversions on strings 2-3-4 up and down. Although I practice triads evenly on all strings, these 2-3-4 inversions seem somehow more clear.

Yeah dude, being able to practice in your mind puts you one step ahead of other people because while they are eating their lunch, you can be practicing!
