Default Jazz Venues: Here are some in my city, how about yours?

Hello.
As a way of helping to keep Jazz alive, I wanted to list some of the best (in my opinion) Jazz venues in my area, the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex, in Texas, USA. I have not been to all of them but I have friends that have. Here in no particular order:

1: Scatt Jazz Lounge in downtown Fort Worth.
Scat Jazz Lounge - Ft. Worth, TX

They have Jazz just about every night of the week. It is a small, dark, smoky venue with a lot of tables and chairs, a bar, and a stage. Great variety and includes Jam sessions on Wednesday and Sunday. No food is served at this time.

2: Dallas Museum of Art in downtown Dallas.
Dallas Museum of Art

This sprawling art museum has a large atrium that plays Jazz every Thursday night. They have a lot of the great local talent playing there as well as others from out of state. There serve drinks and lite food, such as wraps, salads, sandwiches, etc..

3: The Amsterdam Bar near downtown Dallas.
The Amsterdam Bar

Monday night is "Bad Ass Jazz Night." It is a "can't miss" Jam with hosted by local Jazz Great, Shelley Carroll. He has some regulars and others that pop up to play. My favorite night had a guy soloing with a trombone. I had never seen or heard much of that instrument being used in such a way. The third Mondays normally feature more electric instruments and younger players, leaning a little more toward "Soul Jazz" type stuff. There was a guy with a Paul Reed solidbody, a Fulltone OCD, and a Fender Blues Jr. amp who showed me I can like distortion in Jazz. He played a more modern style and was great. No food is served that I know of.

4: Fort Worth Library Summer Jazz series.
Third Thursday Jazz Series | City of Fort Worth, Texas

This runs from June to October and features some great Jazz every third Thursday ( I am pretty sure it is on the 3rd Thursday) of the each Month.
My 60 year old Jazz buddy religiously attended the series and loved it. There was plenty of room and a great crowd each time.

5: Terilli's in Dallas on Mockingbird Lane.

I am only guessing about this place, which used to be my favorite until a fire burned down the historic building a couple of years ago. It boasted a great menu and some 50 Jazz acts that it could book (according to the hostess). They just reopened in November 2011 and I don't know if there are still that great but the calendar seem to indicate they still have some decent acts that play a mixture of everything from Pop Jazz to more Traditional Jazz.

So that's it for the venues that feature Jazz that is not of the smooth Jazz nature. If you want that you would have to check the calendar of the following venues. They pretty much all have food mixed with music that varies from a smooth Jazz to Blues to RnB (Rhythm and Blues) to a mixture of all.

6. The Balcony Club in Dallas off Abrams

I love this intimate bar with a stage, but it has been having financial problems and closed down for a week recently. It is a basic dark bar and the stage is right by the door, but it is in a well-to-do older area of Dallas and were I young and single, would be one of my hangouts. They have a rotation of several Jazz groups, some recurring on a their own night every week, such as my favorite, "Blue in Jazz," a Jazz and Blues trio that features musical guests at times.

7. Soho Seafood and Jazz, (I almost forgot about this one), located in Addison, Texas off Beltline Road

This place claims to be a 5-Star restaurant and has Jazz groups that I don't see regularly in other venues. I only visited once and while the music was great, you have to make sure you get a seat inside rather than outside so you can see the band and maybe steal some riffs if there is a guitar player in the band.

8. The Freeman Cajun Cafe in Dallas in the "Deep Ellum" area near downtown Dallas. (I heard there are no less than 18 clubs featuring a variety of live music or DJs in that area of downtown)

I just heard about this place. It apparently opened up in or around the August 2011. They have some nice acts on their calendar. I don't know anything else about this place. They will give the Amsterdam Bar some competition on Monday nights since they are located not far from each other.
__________________________________________________ _____

The following are some clubs that feature primarily Jazz, R&B, and/or Blues and depeding on the night and the band. You would have to call or check the club/restaurant's calendar to find out what group is playing and their genre.

9) 2Kats in Dallas off Greenville Avenue.
(They have a lot of Jams and spoken word, and surprisingly a guy named Rob Holbert who plays a lot of soul Jazz and ballads. He plays the sax and sings)

10) Buttons Restaurants in the local cities of Addison, Fort Worth, and another I believe opening in DeSoto.
11) Eddie V's Prime Seafood in Fort Worth
12) Brooklyns Jazz Cafe in Dallas
13) Indigo Jazz Cafe in Irvnig (just opened recently)
14) Various wineries such as the Mansion in Turtle Creek

There are also many annual festivals that feature Jazz groups including the Fort Worth Art Festival and several other big ones.

I almost forgot, Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth puts on some really good traditional Jazz concerts. They have a Jazz Ensemble that is very good I hear. My buddy raves about their concerts too.

Last but not least! North Texas University has a highly regarded Jazz Degree program that feeds a lot of the Jazz artists into this area. It is located in Denton Texas around 30 to 40 minutes North of Dallas and Ft. Worth. They have several lab bands that put on performances around the area and at the school.

There used to be a Jazz scene ('70s) in this town with maybe 3 venues. Most players that wanted to play Jazz moved to another state.

In the '90s, there were Blues bands and venues. It turned out there are a lot more bands than venues lol.
