Default Avalon Place - go Jack Zucker!

Hah, I was just looking through Real Book 3 and our very own Jack Zucker penned a tune that got in there - Avalon Place page 14. How about that?

Very cool. To me that's big.

I often wonder about the folks on this site, especially the ones that haven't posted their playing and who have an unrecognizable name (that doesn't apply to Jack of course). Are some them Jazz Heavies?

I wish everyone would post some playing, it's a kind of getting to know you thing.

Posting playing can be tough...I was on forums for years before I felt comfortable doing it. I just felt like I knew that my sound was so far from what I wanted it to be that I wanted to wait until I was more proud of myself before posting anything.

It's also hard to take criticism sometimes, or some people just don't have easy access to the technology like most of us do.

It is pretty great to hear people's playing. Good opportunity for a shout out: Jens Larsen posts here but he is humble, doesn't post clips, and stays out of trouble ...really fantastic player: Jens Larsen, Jazz Guitarist more of the modern sound, which is a nice contribution because the discussion here is usually more about Wes, Benson, Pass, etc.

It's also helpful to know sometimes...I've been on forums and been intimidated by guys who write pages and pages of self aggrandizing theory or advice or whatever, and they write as if they are heavies...and then you hear them play and they sounds awful! Which is maybe mean of me to say, but it's really useful to note that a lot of things should be read with a grain of salt.

(and, I know I post clips, so if somebody doesn't like my playing, they know not to take my advice too seriously!)

Avalon place I wrote back in the late '70s and was just kind of a brainless fusion tune. The other one Busch-Wacked was written for a jazz club owner Ron Busch.

The funny thing is that I never play those tunes because I have much better tunes. I wish they had picked some other stuff of mine instead.

How do tunes end up in the Real Book?

Yeah Jack, how did your tune end up in the real book? Was it on a popular album or something?
