| | Gingerjazz: Looking for ideas to help out fellow forum member As far as I can make out gingerjazz is in an extended stay at the hospital without a computer. And having spent so much time in a hospital myself I can say it is really beneficial to have a computer and internet access. http://www.jazzguitar.be/forum/chit-...on-i-hope.html
Perhaps we can have a thread where we could donate a little bit each and see if we could raise enough to buy him a laptop, it would probably be in the neighborhood of $400 to $500. With all the members we have on this forum I'm thinking it shouldn't be hard to raise that much.
One big hurdle is figuring out where he is and how to get it to him. Any ideas on how to figure that out?
What do you think?

| | Great idea !...count me in.
Could we send the money to him and have his family sort out the purchase, etc?
Cheers

| | I can't really think of any other way to get the info unless a member knows him personally. He's in the UK; perhaps someone from there that posts on the board may know him. Or, through PM, in the hopes that he may have some limited access and will be able to check sporadically.

Reason: Had to correct a mistake made due to my haste and stupdity, the result of the NY DMV aggrevating me so much today.

Splendid idea, count me in (modestly...).
Perhaps someone here (in UK, preferably...) has a spare laptop under the bed they'd be willing to part with..?
A quick look at the 'bay UK shows up factory refurbished laptops at around £100 (eg: IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T42 for £95, that's better than the T22 I'm typing this on..!).
Anyone game enough to PM Ginger to have his view on this..? I've had good correspondance with him in the past, so I could if no-one else is willing.
A interesting thread to follow, this one; excellent initiative, fep.

| | As Dad and Paynow suggested, I Pm'd him and asked for some contact information. (Gingerjazz's account has the email link blockned.)
Hopefully he'll check his messages on this board at some time. I'll let you all know when/if he responds.
Dad, good call on the used laptop. That would make this idea very doable.

| | I was thinking maybe it would be easier and less costly if someone here in the US had a laptop he/she wasn't using anymore, then we could just ship it to the guy from wherever. It seems the majority of members are in the US. The person donates the laptop and we all reimburse him/her for all S/H expenses. I only have one desktop mac to my name, so I'd be one of the people chipping in $$ for S/H. |

| | Paypal? I would be happy to make a contribution. Has anyone thought about setting up a Paypal account for the donations? I've never set up a Paypal account like this, but I have used Paypal to contribute money in the past; it was quite easy.
I'm fine with whatever you folks come up with.
Happy Thanksgiving to those all that celebrate it today! Time to get the cranberries started!

| | Gingerjazz may already have a PayPal account. Lots of folks who shop online do these days. If not, it's an easy thing for him to create one as ah.clem said. I'm in either way, I'll donate to a PayPal account or to reimburse shipping if someone has a used laptop to donate. |

I haven't heard back from him. So, I just wait and hope he responds. I can't think of anything else I can do. |
