| | "time on the instrument...pierre" I want to thank Pierre for his sig....It makes me realize that, for the most part, this is really what it all boils down to.
Every time I read his sig, I want to go and play (and try to learn more).
He constantly reminds me of the paramount importance of the most basic fact......through this simple, but powerful, little phrase.
Many thanks, Pierre Richard !

| | This is nuts! I mentioned that signature today at work. We were talking about songwriting, after I read about someone searching for inspiration. That quote seemed fitting, even though we were talking songwriting and not musicianship. I had said that you can't wait for inspiration, you just have to spend time doing it. It's a skill...work it. Inspiration is gravy.
I go back to that sig line a lot. It works in just about any facet of life. Just keep doing it. Nothing teaches like experience. |

Dave | No kidding there!! That line has done wonders towards the treatment of my GAS ailment. We always talk about the secret to great guitar playing and spend a lot of time searching for it when it was right in front of our faces all the time. THAT'S the secret to great guitar playing and everything else you want to get good at. |

Time is the stage. You are the player... Pierre's tag is always inspriational to me too. I like the Herb Ellis quote that another member has regarding the importance of singing everything you play... |

| | I just finished reading an article from the 1993 American Psychological Association journal by Ericsson, Krampe, and Tesch-Romer. The gist of the article is that practice is the most important road to proficiency. It cites a study that indicates that it takes a person 10 years of hard work to become a world class chess player. The great players of recent (they cited Bobby Fischer) who were thought to be more gifted than most, were able to short-cut that time by only one year. I have so far to go. |

| | See what you started Pierre? Now I'll have to start practicing. I was hoping I would get good by osmosis.
Oh well, if I would spend as much time practicing as I do on the forum....... |

| | Yes, Pierre's motto is very inspirational. And he is a very generous forum member too. |

| | I too find this motto quite insightful. There's nothing like actual experience and playing.
I wonder though why he hasn't replied. What could he possibly be doing? |

| | That sig is legendary, I have quoted it many times,on many threads on different boards. (always say it's not my quote, but "another user on a guitar board").
Pierre is not here to collect any accolades, though. He is living up to his motto. Shedding after Thanksgiving, no doubt.
The other sig that was noteworthy was BDLH's lamentation about being married. Which, strangely enough, probably also affects one's "time on the instrument".
On the subject of G.A.S., I always remember Mr. B's line, "the little lady will never notice yet another sunburst". |

| | NSJ, you're right. We probably could all use a little "shedding" after Thanksgiving. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
