Thursday: visited the Guitar Heroes show at the Met. Immediately regretted not being able to play all the instruments on display, but being forced to stare at them and examine every little detail of construction was good too. Then sat backstage behind the scrim, just a few feet away from Gene Bertoncini during his performance. Beautiful nylon string jazz player.
Guitar Heroes at the Met Friday: Played a D’Aquisto, two D’Angelico’s, and some stuff I can’t remember at Rudy's Soho shop. Left me breathless and floating. I am still floating.
Saturday: visited Bryant Trenier, who is making me a guitar. Chatted and played for two hours.
Sunday: visited the Met show again, and this time saw Anthony Wilson, Julian Lage, Chico Pinheiros, and Steve Cardenas play Wilson’s composition “The Four Seasons” on some really fancy Monteleone guitars. Astounding music and performance, once again, I was breathless.
As a West Coast kid who doesn’t get out there enough, I would say to all of you, you gotta spend some time in NYC.
