I'm mostly self taught, most of the stuff I've learnt has come from books and jamming with people. Anyway, I'm thinking of starting guitar lessons , are there any structured graded jazz sylabus' out there like the equivilent to classic and rockschool?
Modern Method For Guitar 1, 2, and 3.
Mickey Baker books.
I'm not sure about how important grades are, especially in Jazz.
Feedback from your teacher and improvement in your playing, are much better guidelines than grades. IMO
yes, Berklee has 8 levels described in the guitar dept handbook. see their web site.
ABRSM has jazz levels for other instruments spelled out i believe. you could extrapolate some of that if you know what you're doing.
UNT jazz guitar fundamantals I and II has two semesters laid out on UNT's website. that's for music majors and is not for the meek. you could always go a little slower and do the same thing.
I think levels of proficiency are a better standard... I can't remember, but I believe when I was at Berklee they used I - VI... I'm from stone ages...I graduated in 70's... Reg
