Default Which Country in Europe for Jazz Musician?

Hi all,

Next year I will have to opportunity to spend 6 months in Europe and want to maximize that time by meeting as many musicians as possible and playing as frequently as I can.
What European countries have the most vibrant jazz scenes that would also accept a new foreign player readily? I have heard a lot about Italy and also Germany - especially Berlin.
Can any of you folks share any information on the subject? Any suggestions of specific cities?

Thanks much!

Berlin is good but check out the jazz guitar clinics in France.

Uli Hoffmeier (the modern Eddie Lang) and his gang hold a clinic every year there:

Ulrich Hoffmeier

Ulrich H. is the amazing guitar player for Max Raabe & The Palast Orchester of Berlin...

Italy is not what it is cracked up to be. Although, to be fair, I'm pretty far down south and have only recently started playing again.

I get the impression and would advise: France!!, Spain and Germany. But, in general, any of the big cities in those places.

Thanks everybody!
I hadn't considered Spain. It has a certain advantage in that I speak fluent Spanish and that would help me to meet more musicians faster. Plus, I love the country. I didn't realize that jazz was happening there. That's good news!
France seems the #1 vote - maybe I can split my time between France and Spain and make a sojourn to Germany before returning to Mexico (where I live).
Thanks again for the feedback...

I was doing a search for threads with the word "Spain" in them, and came across this one.

In spite of living not too far from the city of Valencia, I don't currently get much chance to go down there and check out the Jazz scene. May be worth researching.

San Sebastián, in the north, hosts some great festivals, but I don't know what goes on there outside of that.

So, to be on the "safe side", choose the big cities, either Barcelona or Madrid. I had personal experience of the former and hope that things are more or less as they were 10 years ago. Great city, as far as cities go
