Seems like pretty standard death-metal minor arpeggios to me. I agree that if you follow the tab, that leap from the 9th to the 17th fret is ridiculous given the timing - but what makes you think that the tab is right?? Tab is notorious for being wrong.

yeah, but i've seen videos of it being performed live, and some covers, and it seems like people are playing it this way, which just seems nuts. I don't think I can actually move my arm fast enough to do the position shifts. I have trouble playing things that require easier position shifts, like e-5-7-9-10-12-14 haha
