| | Manana De Carnaval Can anyone help me with the chords to Manana De Carnaval, please you tube John,Al and Paco doing this tune, as well as Luis Miguel, he has a great comping guitarist. Also check out Sungha Jung doing his finger style version. I would be happy just getting grip chords together on this.
Thanks to all,
Johhny |

| | Link from this site... There is a section on this site with misc. links and one of them is to a McLaughlin tribute site, which has a full score of the guitar trio's version of Manha, with tab: WBTG-Scores-Manha De Carnaval. It's very accurate but the scan is a little rough. Hope this helps... |

| | Thanks Juuso1, JimBobway, you are the best.
I appreciate it. SO here is another question. Who decides what chords to use? How are chords determined if a singer is not a piano player or guitar player. I kind of know a little about diatonic chords, and a little about their inversions.
But the chart on the link for the Manha De Carnival piece I cannot relate too. I was able to learn an earl klugh finger style arrangement by the recording and the tab just like the chart. However I do not know what chords I am doing.

| | Johnw400,
Thanks Man, your're too much..
I have been a long time avid listener and devotee to JM, I studied under Strunz with Srunz and Farah years ago, I have been using a digital transcriber to capture his heads and runs. I only understand basic grip chord harmony. It sucks because I get way tired of just playing runs all the tim. I wish I could read the chord charts on the link you gave me. I would be in heaven.
I mean so what if I can burn rubber through chic's spain, If I cannot read the chart and follow the changes then I am sucking all over the place.
Any suggestions on tackling those charts, simple one first please. |

I don't think he would have found it otherwise.
It appears that the Real Book ain't givin any love to the Brasilians. Either they list the wrong name or the wrong changes. |

About 10 years ago I was playing in a Spanish restaurant. The owner was Brazilian and occasionally some of his 'paisanos' would come by for dinner.
One night they came up and put a $20 in the jar and asked that we play Girl from Impanema. That was a nice tip so we playerd EVERY Jobim tune from the real book that we knew. They only knew Girl from Imp. They had no idea about the other 6 Jobim tunes we played. We got a kick out that.
I used to eat at this Brazilian restaurant in Harrison, NJ. They had a dish called Fejoada completa. Man , Excellent. I'm getting hungry thinking about it. |

| | thanks, john. i, too, have met brazilians who are not well-versed in their own rich musical heritage. i guess it's not much different from the usa, where few among the younger set (general population--hopefully NOT jazzers) have ever heard of horace silver or clifford brown...
