Default Mambo question

What is the rhythm guitar typically playing in the Mambo style? (Feel free to recommend great Mambo songs and performers).

I am wondering what strumming patterns or picking patterns work well playing in this style.

Thank you!

hmmm...no takers, eh?

well, i used to do at the mambo inn, kind of like how grant green did it on the latin bit (great disc, get it if you don't have it).

i comped using dotted quarter, dotted quarter, eighth pattern. you can mix that up with the typical son clave pattern, won't sound too bad:

latin american guitar styles by kent murdick is a good resource. he gives a fingerstyle comp for fast mambo with a two measure pattern, bass (thumb) on the half notes with the second measure bass notes an eighth note early (like tumbao). the rest of the chord (i-m-a fingers) are on beat two 1st ms, 'and' of 3, 1st ms; 'and' of 1, 2nd ms, 'and' of 3 & 'and' of 4, second ms.

this looks interesting:

no guitar comping patterns. you might get some ideas from the percussion ensemble parts and such piano bits as there are...but you might want to look through it before you shell out $25...jes' sayin'...
