Default Bb Blues Jazz Guitar-Rhythm Guitar Lesson

Hi everyone,

Check on my YouTube video below that shows an excerpt of my lesson on how to play rhythm guitar over the Bb Jazz Blues chord changes.

YouTube - Advanced Bb Jazz Blues Rhythm Guitar Lesson

What is unique about this lesson is that I demostrate how to play a different chord on EVERY beat of each measure. Hope you find this approach interesting. Thank you very much. Ron

Great lesson. Could you post the article from JJG? I haven't got the nov 2005 issue.

Thank you very much for your kind comment. Currently, I have the corresponding JJG article bundled with the accompanying DVD instructional video. I appreciate your understanding. However, you can check out my website for a couple of improvisation lessons (Dorian Pentatonic Scale, How to solo over Giant Steps) based on JJG articles.

Jazz Guitar Improvisation Using Pentatonic Chord Scales

With enough interest, I intend to do some more DVD instructional videos based on my published lessons.

Best wishes and thank you once again for your interest and support. Ron

You have beautiful tone. It's obviously an L5, but could you tell us what amp are you using? The volume seems like it's hardly on and you get that melding of the acoustic and electric sounds. Also, are you using flatwounds or round wounds? Thanks.

Hello Flat5,

Thank you for you nice comment on tone. Yes, it is a 1997 Gibson L5 CES. I use light flatwound strings (high E string is .011). The amp is a Carvin AG100D amp. Check out website below:

Carvin.com :: AG100D

This is a very good overall amp. I really like the 3 independent channels that are all voiced differently. You are correct about the volume. I recorded this video with a ZR900 Canon camcorder using the built in mic. This meant that the sound was a combination of the amp sound and the acoustic sound from the L5. For this style of rhythm guitar playing, it is important to capture the sound of the actual guitar. The L5 is great since the acoustic sound is fine without any amplification. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you once again and best wishes. Ron

I still have the JJG article in my music library. I remember how much fun it was to learn and play the progression.It's nice to see your demonstration.
