Hello,

I'm not sure to understand by "chord themes" ? Do you mean the chords
going with one song (i.e. what is often called the changes for the song) ?

I know some sites with those chord changes :

grilles jazz manouche standards jazz manouche sur manoucheries.com saucissons et standards de jazz
Jouer avec "Nuages de Swing"

Please let me know if this answers your question. I mostly play this style
so I'll be glad to help you.

peace
Guelda

Check This Out! django on electric guitar.

Regarding Django on bElectric guitar, he recorded quite a lot in the post war 1940's.
I have three 10 inch LPs on VOGUE label, where he plays on radio broadcasts in Rome around 1947.There is some BEAUTIFUL playing and ideas, especially on some slower tunes e.g. Manoir De Reves.
I believe that they are now available on Cd as part of a set of 3 cds with other material.
He is with a clarinet player,Hubert Rostaing.
PS This is all as I remenber because I left my 7000 Lp collection of guitar jazz etc in England, and now live in Tel Aviv. However I have a copy of the 1947 LPs on a CD I copied myself.
The picture on the LP shows Django sitting on the steps of a caravan ,playing his (acoustic) guitar with Babik as a young boy standing nearby.
If you Listen to Les Paul you will hear many of Django's phrases played almost note for note. And , of course the hot club Rhythm is heard on Les's tracks such as Bye Bye Blues,How High The Moon, etc.
Maurice Summerefield(Ashley Mark Publishing) has a very good book about Django.
Best wishes Geoff Menzer

Is Andre Ekyan the w/wind player on 1945's "Rosetta"? I love that solo more than Django's on that cut, and it lays nicely on the guitar too. There is very little info on Ekyan, I'd love to know more....

Stephane Wrembel has an instruction book called Getting Into Gypsy Jazz Guitar, published by Mel Bay. Comes with CD, and has instruction for both rhythm and lead, with pages of arpeggios, licks, etudes and exercises. Great info on chord choice, picking technique, use of approach notes to enhance arpeggios (per "Django's approach") to remain stylistly consistent. Also a good process of how to practice developing good improv skills through creation and development of motives and sequences. I'm just scratching the surface of this...!

Must Read Django's Castle

Dear Dirk,
I was just working on harmonizing Django's "Le Manoir De Mes Reves" when your email arrived. Thank you very much for Django's bio; this information is really difficult to find in other jazz books. I will add my arrangement here if somebody wants to play it.
You can download the original score from:
