Video Authentic Chord Changes for "Diamond Dust"

For any Jeff Beck fans out there, I have just uploaded an 8 minute video to You Tube in which I demonstrate and explain the chord sequence for my composition "Diamond Dust" which was recorded by Jeff on his album "Blow by Blow".

If you are interested then go to:

It is pretty long. Here's the link. There is also another chord breakdown of DD up there as well.

Bernie - thanks a lot for this, and for your posts on the other thread about this tune. Your willingness to share your work in this way is generous and very welcome. Diamond Dust is a fine piece of music, please let us know as soon as you get your CD together, I'd like to hear more of your music - even from that one tune alone, it's clear that you're a very talented man.

Also - are you by any chance the same Bernie Holland who played bass for a while with Patto when Clive Griffiths was ill? (I was a huge Ollie Halsall fan in the early seventies, still am!)

Yes, I did deputise for Clive Griffiths. Ollie was a great mate of mine and we had some great times together. When Griff got well again and rejoined the band Ollie insisted I stayed on to play guitar alongside him. Unfortunately none of this was recorded so you will just have to imagine the racket the two of us made - it looked nice and symmetrical on stage as well Ollie being a left hander and me a right hander. Sadly this brilliant genius of the guitar is no longer with us but I'm so glad that thanks to the internet more and more people are realising what a fantastic player he was. If he was still alive today he would be running rings around Pat Metheny, Steve Vai and the rest of them. I mean no disrespect to those who are also excellent guitarists but Ollie really was something else again - a truly unique talent and a really fantastic guy! Thank you for your very kind comments about the video of the chords for 'Diamond Dust' which I recently posted on You Tube. If you are interested, watch out for another video which I am currently producing which will feature me playing solo on a new arrangement I have done of 'Diamond Dust'. This is going to take a week or so to complete as I have other musical commitments, but things are going well so far. I'll keep in touch
Best wishes Bernie

"I'll keep in touch"

Please do, this exchange has been a real pleasure for me!

For anyone reading this who's wondering who Ollie Halsall is - go to The Ollie Halsall Archive - Patto [albums] and click on the audio files for 'Money Bag' and 'Give it all away' to hear what Bernie and I are talking about - Halsall was a world class player, and criminally under-rated - creative, exciting guitarist, with a technique to die for.

Just a little something I put together last night

YouTube - Blues in 4ths

The sound is a bit poor but let me know what you think

Best wishes

Nice stuff - you get into some great 'angular' lines there, I love lines with wide intervals. It just made me want to hear some clearer recordings, I think you have tremendous depth in your playing.

You are absolutely right - the recording does no justice to the performance - a lot of stuff got lost there - however, I have just bought a new videocam which is of better quality. So I will be removing all the videos I have posted so far and replacing them with fresh new recordings. Once I get this sorted out then you will have a better chance to hear what I am trying to get into here. It's very encouraging for me to know that there are people out there like you who have the 'ear' to grasp these concepts. I'll let you know when I've got the new recordings completed. Many thanks for your messages - and may the fourths be with you!

Bernie

Yeah Bernie, The Blues in 4ths did not play well on my computer. The sound was a bit muddied up . What I did hear of the lines was very interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing an analysis of some of the runs.

When I do the new recording I will try and offer some explanation of the approach to playing this way - in the meantime I have been testing my new webcam and I have posted a song I wrote called "Vote For me" on You Tube - it's not very jazzy, it's more of a funky bluesy type thing but I think you might give me your vote ! The link for it is:

YouTube - "Vote For Me" a tribute to British Politicians by Bernie Holland

I will be doing a more jazzy version of this soon so I'll let you know when it's done - the problem is that I have so much to do at the moment it's very difficult getting the time to do all these freebies - but the positive feedback is reward in itself - many thanks

Bernie

Nice feel, good guitar playing, lyrics that hit the spot. I hope this video gets lots of views, it deserves to be widely heard, particularly here in the UK where it reflects what lots of us are thinking and saying.

10/10

Hey Guys I thought I'd post this transcription of this georgous track by Bernie. This is transcribed from his instructional YouTube video. I hope I got the arpeggio pattern correct.

Hi Remo

Thank you for transcribing the chords for my tune 'Diamond Dust' I am sure some other guitar players will appreciate your efforts here - and yes, you have got the arpeggio pattern correct. Some time ago I recorded my own version of 'Diamond Dust' and you can find it on You Tube by following the link shown below here:

I hope you like it - Best Wishes - Bernie
