Help Moanin'

Anyone out there who has the chordprogression (32 bars) for the solosektion between choruses on either Art Blakey's original version of the great melody Moanin' or Ronnie Earls version of the same song, or in the best of worlds, both. I haven't been very succesfull in trying to figure it out myself. By I love the tune and I love to play along with, and I would love to be able to do the chords behind the sololines.
Thanks in advance / Warehouse

If I remember it well, they improvise over a vamp:

Fm Ab9 |G7 C7 |

I'm not sure though, I don't have the audio here and it's been a long time since I playd Moanin'.

Ever hear the Bollenback/DeFrancesco version? Mr B dialed in some distortion on that thar GB10, and it works.

I'll try to get hold on the record 'cause you've made me curious 'bout this DeFrancesco.
Got more tips like the one 'bout DeFrancesco?
What about the GB10?

Joey DeFrancesco plays Hammond B3 organ, and he does so, very very fast. He tends to be accompanied by excellent guitarists, like Paul Bollenback, Jimmy Burno, Jake Longley and others.

As the story goes, Joey toured with Miles Davis' band when he was 16. He was quite the child prodigy. He doesn't read music per se, just chord charts. He is the heir of the late, great Jimmy Smith.

A GB10 is an Ibanez GB10, "GB" stands for George Benson. Here's one that looks exactly like mine, with the gold completely worn off the pickups.
Vintage Guitars, SWEDEN - 1979 Ibanez GB10

They're wonderful little archtops, will a surprisingly big tone, that can be played loudly without feedback. I love the neck.

New ones are going for $2500 now. I bought a used 1981 for $900 15 years ago.

I haven't played it in a while, but I think it moves to 8 bars of a Bbm based vamp in there, too.

YW. I have some more information for you. It's an AABA song. The A part is as leokn described. The B part is like this, open to interpretation of course:

Bbm7 - Ab7|G7 - C7#9| Fm7|(Cm7) - (F7)|
Bbm7 - Ab7| G7b9|C7|C7alt|

Hope this helps and have fun playing this classic song. FYI, the Jazz Icon series of DVD's includes a fantastic rendition by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers from way back.

Dirk is correct about the changes (Fm Ab9 |G7 C7). I downloaded a MIDI file and .gifs of the changes HERE - it's not the prettiest site but there's lots of great tunes. Moanin' is a blast to solo over. It's a great freakin' album overall. Lee Morgan's solo on the title track is one of my fav's.
