Default Chord writing software

Hi there folks - do any of you know of good software for writing chord progressions? I'm not concerned with notation or tab just something relatively simple that you can print out and put in a binder, perhaps using Jazz font and capable of writing proper sharps and flats? This is the sort of thing I constructed myself but I'm sure there's better out there.

Band in the box is a great tool for this. And you can also use it to work on ear training and blowing/comping.

All around good program.

The fonts in that doc look fine to me as well. If you are interested in professional music fonts, I suspect you can install one of the free music notation apps and use whatever font that comes with it (if any).

If you are looking for chord diagrams, then QwikChord 3 is your best bet.

Also, there are some reall great LaTex editing packages dedicated to music typesetting. Also, Lilypond (http://lilypond.org/web/) may be what you want.

Thanks Gravytrain,

I have Qwikchord 3 and love it. I downloaded Lily writer and will give it a shot. Appreciate your help!

I am the original author of QwikChord and just wanted to say thanks for the mention!

Over the years, we have seen a lot of users create a templates in Word and just paste chords into it. Honestly, that is probably one thing we get a lot of requests for: a charting tool that allows you to arrange a pageful of chords at a time.

But as you know, there aren't really any "standards" except what the community expects to see. Even the chord naming conventions vary from region to region!

In the end, there was no point in doing that in QwikChord: it's not a layout tool. That what office apps specialize in, so why try to duplicate that.

The best tip I had was one user had a dedicated "clip art" theme folder that he used with OpenOffice. He just set the program to drop all the chord diagrams in that folder. Whenever he wanted to drop in a chord, he just opened up the clip art and all the chords were there to drag and drop on the page...
