Default What is this chord called?

The chord I'm referring to I've gotten a very good ear for years ago when Deftones started becoming popular and used it a lot, and most recently in a lot of contemporary sort of rock and metal music like animals as leaders. I don't know how to name it but it is like taking a power chord, and instead of playing the 1 5 1 you raise the last note (the last 1) 2 intervals, sort of like a mirrored diminished triad. Anyone have any information on this chord? Thank you

It's just a sus2 chord. The voicing you're talking about is this one:

--x--
--x--
--x--
--9--
--7--
--5--

The voicing is R, 5, 2. It's a triad with the 2 substituting for the 3. The one voiced above is an Asus2 chord (sometimes written as just Asus).

They've been used a lot since the 80s in alternative rock type stuff, especially for riffs. You can hear it pretty clearly in the riff for Message in a Bottle by the Police, and in the riffs for Satellite and Warehouse by the Dave Matthews Band.

Yes exactly, it is also used in that song. In one of my bands, one of my bandmates uses the chord frequently so thats why I was thinking about it
