Default Andrew Green "Jazz Guitar Comping" -- Question before I buy.

I'm pretty set on purchasing Andrew Green's "Jazz Guitar Comping" book, but I'm curious about the ~36 pages of "Studies and Analysis" that begin on page 100 (according to the index located at The Chops Factory site)

Can someone who owns this book provide a brief synopsis on the material in this ~36 page section of the book? Does it have examples of full tunes, or is it more of 4-8 measure examples or ...what?

I'm currently working through Barry Galbraith's "Comping" book, and although I find it to be extremely invaluable, I'd like something with a little more discussion or explanation, and I'm hoping that the Green book will provide this.

It has a few full tunes followed by a breakdown/analysis of what was played and why. There is a tremendous amount of info in the book, well worth the price. The only caveat to be aware of is that (I find) the examples given at times to be just too rich, busy, overloaded with tensions, etc. Don't let this put you off; just be aware of all that can be used and use what appeals to you. You could do a lot of pairing down and still have great comping going on.

Thanks for the reply whiskey!

I have another question: Does the book progress in a linear fashion with simple concepts introduced first and then further elaboration, or is it more of a compendium of ideas organized by topic? In other words, does this book work more like a "roadmap" or "encyclopedia"?

Er, is the book more of a method or a reference, is what I'm trying to ask.

Thanks for the caveat.

Excellent book. Probably my favorite comping book. Only thing it doesn't really cover if I recall correctly is 4 to the bar stuff. I also really like his Structures book. In fact, I think I'll break both books out for a quick skim tonight while I'm in bed.

Default Errata?

This thread inspired me to pull out my copy that I have only worked with a little. I noticed a misprint on page 13, last system of the first exercise nd I wondered if anybody knows of an errata sheet that might be kicking around on the 'net somewhere. Barring that, if anybody knows if this is a lone error or if there are a few more scattered throughout the book.
FYI, the error on 13 is that the chord diagram printed for D7b9 should be indicated for the fourth fret not the third.
TIA,
Brad

I've worked quite a lot with this book, and I haven't found many misprints. I have re-tabbed a few of the pages for some reason, but I guess it has more to do with communicating with less strong sheet music readers.

I found that too it's the only one I've found, though I haven't gone through the whole book...

Thanks. It's just a little off-putting that it's in the first exercise, if it were at the end it would not be as noticeable.

I just wanted to say thanks to all you guys. I just got the book in the mail today, listening to the CD right now to get a nice overview, and man, are there some really nice sounding chords here. Can't wait to really dig in to this!

Incidentally, I don't know what print-run this particular edition is, but the error on page 13 seems to have been fixed.
