I'm guessing that's a really clunky way of writing a m/maj7 chord...

So D F A C#, 1 b3, 5, 7.

Yup. Seen it that way. Also as Dm(#7). D Melodic Minor or Harmonic Minor chord.

Yes. Minmaj7. Awful way to write it.

I agree with m/Maj7; but the Parens through me off. Is there ever a time in your experience where the Parens are indicative of something that will affect the chord?

btw, Thanks for all the comments

D-(maj7) is a good standard to use ..... in other words minor is always signified by a - ........... This method comes from Jazz leaders and players writing stuff out at gigs and session very fast and scribbly.

Yeah, in some circles the use of ( ) indicates an isolated extension, for example,

Cmin13 would include the 9th but Cmin7(13) would not include the 9th.

I have also heard of ( ) being used to indicate a chromatic alteration to the key. So in C Major G9 would be diatonic but G7(b9) would be chromatic.

The second example doesn't change the chord, but in theory, the first example would.

Yeah, that is a horrible way to write it.

I prefer either, DminMaj7 or good old D-M7. The latter is how I would normally write it.
