That's a fairly straight ahead latin groove tune. A little camouflaged.
I hear D- as tonal center or I and the G- or Csus as IV- or bVII etc...
Like a 16 bar latin blues.
If you think of the tonal areas as combinations of harmonies. Csus as combination of G- and C7 and the D area as combination of Dsus, Blues notes and also can be V of the G-. The point is there are options of how to create grooves or montuno like feels. Your not simply going to play one chord. Think of moving part inside your comping.
Here's a possible sample of what you could play, at least while solo is going on. When backgrounds start it's not as loose... you should lock into a repeating comp part that works with backgrounds...
