Review Larry Carlton 335 Improv DVD

Just wanted to say that I purchased the Larry Carlton instructional DVD's and they are great. Learning more about working with triads in different positions and learning new vocabulary on soloing. I have been playing for over 25 years and it was very helpful.

Which exact DVD did you get, and from where? Just curious. I see some LC master classes on DVD on Amazon but the jackwads selling them want 100 dollars.

I think the OP is referring to the '335 Improv' title LC did through Truefire:

Jazz Guitar Lessons - 335 Improv - Larry Carlton

That is correct. I actaully went to Larry's site where there are some examples of the lessons. I found them good enough that I ordered it. It does cost a lot of money, but I just paid the same $100 for my son to get trumpet lessons for the month of August. The videos are more helpful since you can go back to them. I have taken 2 videos and have played them back again and again and practiced with Larry.

I saw a couple of examples of his videos on Youtube a while back.
He seems to be a great teacher. He does'nt get off track like a lot of tutors do, just straight to the point. The way he explains his music is brilliant.
I am a great fan of Larry's playing.
I once purchased a Joe Pass video on his chord structures. He is almost certainly the best jazz guitarist born into this world, but he's a terrible teacher. He was all over the place, going off onto other things then back again. I found it really hard to follow him being the extremely impatient person that I am But I'm sure these Larry vids would keep my interest a bit longer

Must Read

I went through the first 7 lessons on the first DVD. "Peformance 1. I learned some good in and out's, and I have a better idea on coming up with my own ideas from his lessons. I stopped going futher with any of his new lessons. I want to continue practicing what I learned until it becomes 2nd nature before I move on to the next section of the DVD's

Default $157.50

Larry Carlton (via TruFire) has two DVDs on Amazon. Each costs $157.50. One is called 335 Improv while the other is 335 Blues. Being a Jazz instructional DVD/Book junkie, I would love to own them.

I saw an excerpt from one of these a while back on YouTube and it was a basic lesson, but still highly effective IMHO. I could only imagine how well Larry's instruction would be as the lesson progressed.

I would think that a course like this would pay for itself after a couple of months, considering an good jazz instructor around here costs around $120.00 a month.

Just chekced the TrueFire site and each of these 4-CD-ROM sets is $100.00. So even better of a deal! I definitely want these; just can't afford them right now.
