Help Practicing Chord Sequences

Recently I have been putting quite alot of thought into how I practice chord sequences (and chords in general)

I used to be an active player in my community but recently I reilised that often I was just going on to the stage and playing alot of what might be called 'Beef stew' (much of the same) while acompnying. Since i reilised this i droped out of playing for a bit to trying and correct this problem

It was like while in the practice room I had lots of substitution, alternative voicing and other ideas that when on stage just kinda got stuck and never really materialised.

The way I practice a chord sequence just now involves getting it down in the home key (trying to do it too the extent where I can play it in any position) and then i take it through a few other keys before adding some substitutions.

Anyone want to shed light on how they might takle this problem?

Many thanks in advanced!!

Learn to play lead lines on top of what your comping. Can be melody, counter melody or groove melody. This generally makes your comping begin to groove... or at least fall into some accent pattern... Reg
