Jim Hall Jim Hall bVI Blues Thing

Not sure if it's even a Jim Hall thing ...

I've heard about a way of cycling through the blues changes using the b6 at the turnaround. So, in E ... typical I IV V (E A B) and then at the end of the turnaround you hit the bVI (C) and then that becomes your new key.

Run the blues in C until the next bVI (Ab) and that becomes your new key.

Run the blues in Ab until the next bVI (E, actually Fb) and then you're back in the E blues.

Am I recalling this correctly? It's a cool trick and I've messed around with it a bit. Great thing to do with singers ... just let them know that you'll take three choruses before you get back to the home key!

Any recorded examples of this bVI concept?
