| | Jazz Standards in TAB Hi Guys,
I'm very much in my infancy level of playing guitar let alone Jazz but loving each minute of it and the vast array of songs that Jazz has opened to me.
I am finding that I am more competent of playing via TAB whilst still learning the never ending array of chords and their names for that matter .
So I was wondering, is there a PDF of Jazz Standards in TAB form that would help players like me.
Thanks for your response guys. |

| | If you are just starting, the more reason for you to start learning to read music notation. You don't have to be an expert at sight reading. I recommend that you get yourself a Real Book and start learning a couple of songs from there. In the real book the chord names are written on top of the notation and the melody is in notation. In jazz the melody, mostly, is not so complicated I'm a newbie myself and I can read most of the melodies in the Real Book Vol1 the only complex part could be the rhythm but you can worry about it later when you got the melody stuck in your head. The only secret about learning to read notation is practice, practice, practice. Half an hour every day should get you going in a couple of weeks. |

Thanks for your response guys. | There are PDFs of chord-melody arrangements in tab knocking around the web ok. Most tunes though, just come as lead sheets from Real Books or similar and are the same charts that other musicians use. Best of luck!!! |

| | It also helps, if you can find an instrumental version (or vocal, I suppose) of the tune, in the same key as the one in The Real Book, and listen to the "head" of the tune (the first, bare, stated melody, before the improv kicks in), listen to it about a zillion times - loop it if you know how to do loops - and then the reading will be easier, if you even have to read it after so many listenings. Remember that the instrumental won't be exactly like the melody in the fake book, so allow for that. Hope this helps : ) |

Worry not, you're far from alone. Tab is more than useful for those who are not striving for a career in guitar playing, but simply enjoying the instrument.
I can recommend ... Solo Jazz Guitar, Arrangements for finger style, by Victor Saumarez
...which has staff and tabs for contents... Black Orpheus, Blue Bossa, Cantaloupe Island, Freddy the Freeloader, Mercy Mercy Mercy, Misty, My Favourite Things, Softly as in a Morning Sunrise, Summertime and Watermelon Man
...of course, these may not be titles which appeal to you (it's 'Misty' that does it for me...).
Should be easy to find, if not PM me and I'll see what I can do.
Hope this helps...

Thanks for your response guys. | Mark Elf has covers quite a few standards on his site: Mark Elf Guitar Conservatory
Pdf's are in both tab and standard notation. Plus you get a thorough explanation of the tunes.
You are probably looking for free material but the fee to join his site is very reasonable imo so thought I'd mention it.
Also, Matt Warnock has a ton of free material available on his site: http://www.mattwarnockguitar.com/resources.php
Good luck!
