if you want brazilian that is not jobim (but he IS a brilliant composer whose tunes probably number in the thousands--you don't have to pick 'the bitch from the beach'):

little boat (o barquinho)
recado bossa nova
joyce's samba
baia
so nice (summer samba)
tristeza
menina flor
brazil

or out of brazil:

(at the) mambo inn
tin tin deo
afro blue
wachi wara
forest flower
lucky southern
spain
ana maria
cherry pink and apple blossom white
con alma
song for my father

get the latin real book and go nuts...

What about something by Louis Bonfa?

Bonfá wrote some of the original music featured in the film, including the numbers "Samba de Orfeu" and his most famous composition, "Manhã de Carnaval" (of which Carl Sigman later wrote a different set of English lyrics titled "A Day in the Life of a Fool"), which has been among the top ten standards played worldwide, according to The Guinness Book of World Records.

Gentle Rain is another great song.

Great tunes!

Check out Willie Bobo's recording of "Summertime". His guitarist is a great source for ideas for how we can approach Latin music and our role as guitarists.

I dig most of the tunes Randal listed... also
Speak Low
Morning, Clair Fischer
Wave
Jordu is great as an up Mambo
Nica's Dream, H Silver
West Coast Blues... I dig playing as mambo or cha cha at around 200
Minority.. also as mambo but up , 240. Remember to play F-maj9
You can take any tune with melody you like and play as some sort of latin groove. Shorter melodies in 3/4 are great as Latin grooves in 4/4. Most latin tunes are played in cut time( felt in 2) so the tempos are usually up.
Best Reg
