| | that is a really nice tune for doing the walking-bassline thing! plus, it's bluesy, so the horn player, or whoever you're accompanying, will almost always sound good as long as you give them good support with nice chords and a steady beat. |

| | Wow...I cannot believe I've been into jazz now for almost two years, and I just yesterday discovered this song!!! Thanks for the links to Rich's comping chords, Bob - I love his lessons, so I downloaded it straightaway. I think his comping is more hip than GB's on the original recording! |

| | Jeff -
I agree. I think Rich is a genius. I wish I had discovered his videos 3 years ago when I started to learn jazz guitar. I'd probably be twice as good as I am this point in time (which come to think of it, isn't very good at all ).
Randall-
Thanks for posting that youtube video link. I really enjoyed it. What's really cool is that in July I attended Jamey Aebersold's Jazz Workshop and the combo I was in played Sugar as our final performance. I had never heard of the song before that. Dave Stryker, the guitar player in the video, was one of the instructors at the workshop so it was amazing to see him in this video actually playing that song with Stanley Turrentine all those years ago. So only 1 degree of separation between me and Mr. Turrentine! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
