Default Work Song

Anyone have the head to Nat Adderly Work Song?

I know it's a simple transcription, but I'd like to see it written too.

Thanks, Sailor

Google is your friend! Searching the title of a song in google images works surprisingly well for most standards.

Default work song

OK...I'm stupid, but even an easy song like this is bothering me. I have four different versions, all different, (I know, it's jazz).

6 measures of I
2 measures of V7
4 measures of I
then??
4 measures of??

i.e, in Fm: F7/// Bb7/Eb7/ G7/C7/ Fm7
in Gm: G7/// C7/// Eb7/D7/ Gm
in Em: Em/// A7/// C7/B7/ Em

What is the most basic turnaround here??

Thanks Sailor

I can tell you how I play the turnaround w/a tritone sub:
|F7///|Bb7///|Dd9/C7#9/|F-7///|
Vince Guaraldi has a killer version as well. He plays it w/a bossa nova beat.

the Eb7 is 'optional' (leave it out!). check the melody for chord alterations. V7 of IV--IV7 (a la blues)--II7 (V7 of V), V7--i.

for improv, play roots and thirds and embellish, it will sound fine.

Vince Guaraldi has a killer version as well. He plays it w/a bossa nova beat.
I also like to play the end like that, maybe with an extra V at the very end:

| F7 | Bb7 |Db7 C7 | F-7 C7b10|

(C7b10 is also often written as C7+9 or C7#9 as Dark Star did)

The Db7 is the tri-tone substitute for the G7 that's written in the sheet in the link. Actually if you do play the Eb7 after the Bb7 as the sheet indicates, then you create a nice decending line: Eb7 - Db7 - C7. Sounds good!

I always hear bar 13 as D7 (Ab7), 14 as Db7 (G7), 15 as C7 (Sliding down from Db on the and of 1). Would this be considered wrong??? I don't know but that F7 to Bb7 never sounded right to me???

One version does have the Ab7 in meas 13.

Thanks guys...I know the progression is simple but I do like to hear others opinions.

Also, this is the only 16 measure song I play, I think??

Thanks, Sailor

16 measure (and 12 measure) tunes are usually played twice for both the in and out heads...

(blue bossa, doxy, sugar, summertime, most blues)
