Check This Out! Hi guys!

This is my first post!..Thanks jazzguitar!

In some point I was freaked by the way a guitarist formulated chords with a left handed!..Yes!..left handed!

No. Not that the strings are inverted too to allow left-dominated hand would do. I mean the usual guitar, just played opposite!

Is this accepted in the community?

Sorry I was not updated...^^

Is this a classical guitar question?

Hi and welcome. IMO playing the guitar upside down has several disadvantages. Firstly downstrokes across the strings will sound like upstrokes. Your left hand will struggle to accomplish any standard kind of picking pattern. Most classical guitar music will be unplayable for that reason.

My advice is that if you intend to play classical guitar you should turn the guitar the right way around and try to develop some right hand techniques such as rest strokes. Then add the left hand fingers (nothing too complicated, just single notes) and try to retrain your fingers. Failing that get a left hand model.

Yeah, that seems bizarre to me. It seems like your left hand fingers are going to have to reach extra far to get to the high strings for those single-note lines. There are very few guitarists that do this: Albert King, Dick Dale. I can't think of any jazz guitarists.

Why would you want to do this?

Peace,
Kevin

Good afternoon, bounceFist, and welcome to the forum...
This way of playing the guitar is known as 'Cotten picking', after one of it's most illustrious exponents from the past, Elizabeth Cotten.
Yes, it's an 'accepted' style (what, even by the Jazz Police..?), although somewhat rare, and more so with the (admittedly limited...) availability of 'lefty' guitars. The obvious advantage is being able to play on any 'righty' guitar (friends, in shops, busted string so need one really quickly from another player...). I presume that 'book' type voicings and methods have to be seriously adapted from a fingering point of view (although I have no experience of this myself...).
On this very forum our very own janepaints comes to mind; here's a 'Showcase' video she did last year (there are others...)...

...There are no rules in playing guitar (or any other instrument...); each makes his/her choices and assumes the results. Jane seems to manage quite nicely...
There may well be others out there. It is not an illness; indeed, it carries it's own charm, imho...

Good morning, Roddick...
So I see; apparently Jane has removed the videos (these were external to the forum...). A shame; they were interesting and informative. Sorry about that, but as they are not mine, I cannot reactivate the links.
If I find other Cotten picker videos, I'll post here.

Link takes you to her youtube page. Works fine. Several videos of jazz playing 'cotton picking' style (Thanks Dad3353 - I was unaware that this was the accepted term. Just great).

Don't want to appear 'picky' (no pun intended...), but the term is 'Cotten picking' (Cotten was her surname...). Cotton picking is something else...
Just a detail...
