Newbie! Steve Crowell Chored Melody

Some years ago I purchased Steve Crowell's Chord Melody Program. In those days there were no cds or dvds, just books and charts.

One book that cme with the program is called Major and Minor Scales in Chords for Jazz Guitar. It deals simply with those scales and their intervals and then shows note and tab for harmonizing them in all keys.

Very simple but very effective basis for chord melody. Steve's stuff is at Chord Melody Guitar Music: Guitar Sheet Music, Tab Books, Instruction Videos and DVDs.

I am glad you like the book. You will like my new Jazz Science books for jazz soloing. Many thanks.

Hi Steve, welcome to our group. I own Formulas for JG improv. Your materials come up as a topic of discussion from time to time, as have your youtube vids. Your contributions would be very welcome.

I also bought a collection of your chord melody solos from Chord Melody Guitar Music. Very cool. Actually pretty close to some of the things I had worked worked out, yours had a few more colorful chord voicings though which I definitely appreciated. Thanks for all the hard work!

Default Re: Jazz Science books

Derek, glad to know you have 2 of the books. How are they working for you? I think anyone interested in the style of Warren Nunes will really like them. There are currently 3 books in the series: 1. “The 84 Jazz Guitar Equations” is the musical dictionary/resource book. 2. “Formulas For Jazz Guitar Improvisation,” is the method book, for beginners and for advanced players. 3. “Jazz Guitar Power Soloing,” features advanced techniques and supplement solos. See more at stevecrowell.com.

I have really enjoyed Formulas. I haven't gotten as far into it as I would like, but it is well laid out, and makes lots of sense. I struggled a bit with a couple of the terms that I was unfamiliar with, but quickly was on board. Continued success with your teaching materials.

There is a glossary of terms in the back of the Formulas book, Section 20-1.

Yes, and for a week or so, I regularly referred to it. Very logical method, very accessible. I have recommended it here before. Actually, I was exposed to it here. A while back, we were talking about chromatics in one's playing, and someone posted a vid of you playing, very obviously emphasising chromatics. The vid got my curiosity up, and I ordered the book.
