What this really says is that they can infringe upon the copyright up until the point that the copyright owner takes legal steps to defend his right. Then after they jump through hoops (the copyright holder) Wiki will take it down. I guess this is how some people will try to get around this issue. Pity the poor copyright holder taht doesn't have the money to defend his copyright. |

| | Wow, that never occured to me. I was wondering why they would be willing to pay royalties as they so claim. Unless, they make money through advertisements. I haven't looked through the site to check anything else out as of yet.
In regards to old standards such as Gershwin tunes, who would be entitled to royalties long after they have passed on. Please don't tell me it is just the publishing companies. They didn't write the music.
If it is family does this continue from generation to generation. And does it go on virtually forever? No statute of limitations so to speak?

| | I hadn't heard of Wikifonia; now I've joined. What a great place this is, and o, the number of other great places it leads me to! I am a grateful man.

I asked ASCAP if they had a licensing deal availabe and they said regardless I would still have to get permission to publish/ play or what have you. Hence I stopped posting copyrighted material even for eductional purposes, since there's a fuzzy line and no clearcut answer.
I have however , looked at these types of sites and learned a chart or two from them as well. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
