Chord Game with "Conti" chord melody voicings
Here’s a fun way to use Conti voicings around the Circle of 5ths (yes it IS a Circle of 5ths not 4ths because the intervals are DESCENDING).
Circle of 5hts starting from C: C F Bb Eb Ab Db Gb B E A D G back to C.
Now randomly pick ANY chromatic note and “harmonize” the note with a chord underneath it while the roots of the chords go around the circle.
Let’s choose the note “B”. Here goes “B” is the 7th of Cma7. “B” is the #11th of F7, “B (Cb)” is the b9 of Bb7, “B” is the #5 of Eb+7, “B” is the #9 of Ab7#9), “B (Cb)” is the b7 of Db7, “B” is the 11th of Gb11, “B” is the root of Bmi7, “B” is the 5th of E9, “B” is the 9th of A13, “B” is the 6th of Dmi6, and “B” is the 3rd of G7.
Voila! Games like this are fun AND a great way to learn your voicings. Have fun, and use the Conti Chord Melody voicings as a starting point!
