you know, it's funny--the term "chord melody" is really just used in jazz circles. ask a rock guitar player about it, and they'll look at you funny, even though the style of providing one's own harmonic backdrop while playing a melody is common in a lot of kinds of music.

i took a listen to that piece, and i'd say if you arranged it as a solo guitar piece, it'd be a chord melody of sorts. the melody and chords are a little more seperate on that, but who cares what it's called if it sounds good and makes you happy?

but now we need to talk about this "don't really like to play jazz" business. are you sure? i bet if you hang around here long enough, you'll get into it.

in the meantime, if you like the new age stuff, i want you to run, don't walk, to the record store and pick up a copy of keith jarrett's "koln concert." let that be your gateway to jazz.

Jazz is just a label. It means nothing.

I agree that it is a label, but it means something to me.

i think the important thing to remember is that jazz is not a what, it's a how.
