| | I Need a Bit of Help Does anyone here know of or have a transcription of the version of "I'm forever Blowing Bubbles" that Harold Alden did for Sean Penn in the movie Sweet and Lowdown? I just can't seem to match the exact harmonies of that arrangement and it's driving me nuts. Thanks in advance. |

| | When I heard it the first time in the movie, it had so much feeling and so much gorgeous harmony. The arrangement is definitely right out of the early 30's Depression era. For those who haven't seen it, Sean Penn plays a fictitious guitarist, Emmett Ray who considers Django the world's best. Ray himself is considered the second best in the world. He's also kind of a rough slimy character who loves the booze and women. In the scene where he plays the tune, he's just got done doing you know what to his deaf girlfriend and she wants him to play her a song. The song is played very laid back sweet. Check it out on You Tube. this should be the correct link, Emmett ray plays for Hattie. YouTube - Emmet Ray plays for Hattie |

| | My favorite Woody Allen movie of all time. Sean was great in that, as was the other cast. Howard did a book of transcriptions of that movie. It has all the tunes including that one. Here is a link. Amazon.com: Mel Bay Sweet and Lowdown: Howard Alden: Books |

| | Thanks Howie. I always get him confused with Harold Arlen. I drive myself nuts when I do that.
Thanks Derek for the link. It shouldn't be a problem for me to get that book. That whole movie is loaded with great music. |

| | There is a book of the "Sweet & Lowdown" tracks as mentioned above, however, please be aware that the version in the book is not the movie version you seek. I've serached in vain, too and would love to get hold of it ! The book has a transcription of Howard and Bucky Pizzarelli's version from a CD and not the movie. Does anyone out there have the movie version, please ! |

| | Wonderful stuff. I hadn't seen the movie. Lovely playing.

| | I always liked it. Maybe I'll see if I can rip a clean audio and transcribe it.
Peace,

The version of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles, in the book mentioned, IS the solo version which Emmet Ray plays throughout the film.
It's a fairly complex composition and has many nuances, so unless you're a master of transcribing, I'd just get the book.
The soundtrack however, contains the full band version, not the solo version.
And you can search for the mentioned book on Google Books and see the transcription, on free preview. But the book is well worth buying because just about every tune in that movie is worth learning. The version of I'll see you in my dreams, is awesome, of course Django's version is 2 minutes of the best guitar playing ever committed to tape.
Just thought I'd add the link to save everyone a few minutes: http://books.google.com/books?id=Blk...page&q&f=false

| | Anytime bro. I recently bought the book, I had learned the tune a while ago, and hadn't played it in forever and so im learning it now, taking it very slow to pull all the nuance out. Im going to use it as a set break piece. |

| | ejwhite09 - You're absolutely correct ! I mistakenly confused the soundtrack CD with the book and I offer profuse apologies to all concerned. Incidentally, and many thanks to you, I found said google site and now have my long sought after transcription. No prizes for guessing what I'll be doing these next few days ! Thanks again and good luck ! Dave |
