Matt you rock - I'm going to have a nice night now. Did you say earlier to sub an Eb7 for A7alt for better bass movement in 8th measure?

Is this the whole song basically
Thanks Sailor

yep that's pretty much it. You can sub the Eb7 for any A7alt that occurs during the whole tune, bar 2, bar 8 etc.

If I play the A7alt straight, what voicing could I use around the 5th position for this chord?

I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of doing a quick comp chart of some voicings that are close to the melody notes.

I was bored so it was this or do a chord melody in fourths for Footprints and this looked easier to do

Thanks JohnW400,

That's a good help because it gives me clues but not an actual version til I try to write a chord melody.

The Dmi/maj7 is too much of a stretch on my classical at the moment, but it does sound nice when I get it.

you don't usually an A7 alt "straight" on the guitar, really...alt means b5, #5, b9, #9

in that spot, i like a A7+5, around the fifth pos. you could voice it like this

5x566x

ok, give me a couple of day's. My wife is off from work and she's giving that "your spending too much time with your guitar" look while she plans an outing for us.

I really can't complain. I get at least 2 hours playing time a day in and 4-6 hours on Sunday.

(later) Ok it's posted. I caught a break. Ther was something intersting on TV (haha) ;0

John - two hours a day? You're lucky. I try to only play one hour daily because I have pretty bad carpal tunnel! It takes a long time to make any big improvements with so little practice time but I've played classical for years so generally I can read and figure stuff out pretty quickly.

I'm looking forward to seeing some more Summertime!

Be cool, Sailor

Intro (in Am)

Am Bm C Bm
// // // //

1st two bars played twice..

I also use Am9 to Am to E7+9...

Different tempos and styles to try...

Slow..Herbie Mann did a slow version...Kenny Burrell does a funky version...I have played it Bossa once or twice...in 3/4 or busy 6/8...play it SRV style (I have a student that plays it that way)...amazing...

Time on the guitar man.......pierre...
