| | Mercy Mercy Mercy - I did a chord melody... I thought I'd give a chord melody a try... not that John and Matt need any help.
I've always liked this tune.
See attached pdf and mp3 to help those that are using the tab. Note, to admin, I couldn't attach an mp3 as I kept getting a data error so... the mp3 is here Mercy Mercy Mercy - Solo Guit.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage
Cheers,
Frank

| | Mercy Fep - I just played through it and I like it, very playable. I don't remember where I heard the song or who did it originally though. Nice version!
Thanks Sailor |

| | very nice. I like this tune. It's one of those 'chittlin' circuit jazz tunes like the watermellon man, cantelope island an others. |

| | I've heard it played by Zawinul Syndicate, and it's on one of their albums as well (song is written by Joe Zawinul himself in the late sixties or so). I think there's an old version with Cannonball Adderley, maybe that's one of the original recordings, not sure.
Brilliant song, thanks for sharing |

Check it out!

| | I use to hear a bar band do this around 1980 at a bar called The Dark Room in San Luis Obispo. It was a very heavy on the horns arrangement and I thought of it as their signature tune.
And then this week I stumbled upon it in The Real Book and worked up my chord melody in this thread.
I've never heard Lenny Breau's version, that would be a treat, humbling, but a treat none the less. |

| | There is a live version, where Cannonball Adderley introduces Zawinul before they play the tune. There was also a vocal version by "The Young Rascals" in the 60's. Thanks for sharing. I'm new, so nice to share with you guy's and maybe girl's. |

| | Thanks dwyette, you made my day.
I've been wanting to redo the mp3 as the short solo section definately doesn't groove and I'm not happy with it. I will eventually, haven't gotten to it yet.

I'm still at the hospital with my wifes laptop computer, I can't even look for the file. |

| | Glad the thread was resurrected. I've been thinking about how to do this as CM.
Dude, you MUST post your .mp3 again. Lenny's version isn't on iTunes and I mistakenly just sampled Kenny G's version. Gotta get that out of my head.

| | Thanks guys... I can't post an .mp3, I'm at the hospital recovering from chemo and a bone marrow transplant, been here since January and I'm not going home anytime soon... maybe in a couple of months depending on how my blood counts go. I don't have access to my music files or recording equipment.
BTW I'm doing and feeling fine, just waiting for those stubborn platelets, whiite blood and hemoglobin counts to go up. I'm living on transfusions right now.
Maybe some one else can record it, and feel free to do your own thing on the single note solo bit, improv is the better approach there, I just notated my improv on that section just in case anyone wanted it. |

| | If you can tough it out the chemo and bone marrow transplant, by comparison, I'll be okay with the Kenny G.
I hope your recovering comfortably and getting well soon. I also hope you're able to play a little guitar to pass the time. Ya know, the Martin Backpacker is kind of cool, and can double as a boat oar in an emergency. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
