It will only open if you have the power tab software. It's free and you can get it here:

I would definitely recommend getting hold of it.

Here's a previous post that may help you out.

I'm almost done with the one I promised you however I won't be able to post it here until I get some answers about copyright.

However I think I could e-mail you a copy since it's really only an acedemic excercise in voice leading.

Wow. Super lame about the copyright issues.

My limited understanding was that it was fair use, but I guess you gotta cover your ass.

We're not sure. I have downloaded the book about copyright from the goverment site. I have yet to read it. The problem so far is defining fair use.

As a university professor Matt has more of a 'right' to post them they I do. And, he still has them on his site.

The other question is even though this forum is free, there are ads on this site and they do sell things.

So it's a real cloudy issue. I wouldn't worry about posting if i knew for sure that the worst thing that could happen to me would be that I'm told to remove the post. What I'm concerned about is the possibility of having to pay a lawyer to even answer a charge.

Is there is a lawyer out there in the forum willing to give me free advise on this point?

BTW, If you're looking for somethinng I've already done, Then I could e-mail it to you. I just finished Angel Eyes. I'm starting "You are the susnshine of my life " and trying to use mostly quartal voicings.

I think Matt will take requests and e-mail them to you if there is something specific you wanted.

Default Matt?

Hey JohnW400, Have you been in touch with Matt recently? He has always been one of our most prolific posters and has not posted anything for a while. I hope he is OK.

Default Improvising - All You Need

It seems to me as a beginner (that's an awful lots of jazz tutor books - I could have gone on holidays!) that all you need to improvise jazz guitar are are a handful of simple survival tools:

- guide tones
- 3 bebop scales (major, minor, dominant)
- introduce occasional diads or triads as vamps, intead of always playing single notes
- listen, swing, sing the notes (at least to yourself!)
- say something - i.e. tell a story (use call and response principle)
- know when and what not to play

Be Good! - Pequod

I went so far as to check with ASCAP to see I f I could buy a license that would protect me. Although they told me they had bigger fish to fry, ASCAP also advised that no matter what I would need permission from the author/CR holder.

I also downloaded information about it but there is no clear guideline.

Those are some nice arrangements. I doubt I'm quite experienced enough for Take Five at any speed other than turtle, though.

I've been well thanks John. Occasionally I like to put the guitar down and just listen to non-guitar music. This time it was a lot of Lester Young, Art Tatum, Chick Corea, Ella.

This is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for in my post almost two years ago.

For us slow learners the melody as played is a big help. The author also includes power tab sources for the same tune. Power Tab includes midi! and will also play on tux guitar.

This a big deal for an old f*art like me. Thanks alot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can and do read standard notation and tab. I really like Matt's tunes!
I didn't mean I learn the tune without reading, which would be quite a talent with chord melody. If I hear the melody it adds a very powerful connection between brain and fingers and makes the process faster, and for me more enjoyable. It also gives me a base from which to improvise. What possible harm is it going to do a 63 year old chord melody newbie? I'm glad the tunes seem so easy.
