Default Thoughts on learning these songs.

Hey guys my jazz instructor just told me that i need to learn 3 songs before the end of the semester and then preform them and that will be my grade. Wondering if you guys could help me chose the right onesHe just gave me a long list of songs (over 100) categorized in the different jazz styles: Swing, Bebop, Ballard, Waltz, Blues, Modal, Latin, and Dixieland.
I know i want one of them to be in a blues style. following is a list of the ones he gave me in blues formant.
Au Privave
Bag's Groove
Billies Bounce
Bluesology
C Jam Blues
Sonnymoon For Two
Stolen Moments
Straight No Chaser
Tenor Madness
Watermellon Man

So have you guys ever played these songs before? How difficult are they? Which would you recommend for an out of practice guitar player? Or are they all hard and should i look at some other songs? Finaly do you know where i could find the sheet music for free?

thanks I will probably create other threads in the future dealing with the next song i want to chose but that one be for a while and just wanted to know about these for now.

Thanks agian

Are you going to have accompaniment?

That will affect your choice. For instance, I think Watermelon man would sound good and be easy to pull of if you have two guitars or some other accompaniment. (I have an arrangement of that I'd share with you to possible give you some ideas.) Without accompaniment I'd pick some other tune.

Au Privace - one of Parker's easier melodies and real catchy, this would be a good choice and I think would work going solo but would be better with accompaniment. The chord progression is well suited for walking bass. Parker tunes don't have to be played as fast as Parker did, the melodies are very strong and still sound real good at slower tempos.

Bags Groove & C Jam Blues- Easier than many of the others, but I think the melody is a bit too simple for the audition. Pick something else.

Billies Bounce - another Parker tune, a pretty difficult head. But a tune that a lot of folks play. If you want to be more ambitious go for it.

Bluesology - That title rings a bell but I can place that tune. I have no opinion of this one.

Sonnyman for two - I don't know that one

Stolen moments - Cool melody, this will work, I'd want accompaniment

Tenor Madness - Easy melody to memorize and pretty cool. There's some room to throw in some chord punches along with the melody if you're clever. So it could work well as a solo guitar piece.

Straight no Chaser - An unusual and very chromatic melody. Very easy melody to remember. This would be a good choice.

Consider 'Blues Walk' which is also a tune that has room to play chord punches along with the melody and has a really catchy melody.

If it was my choice I'd choose Au Privace for an easier tune or Billies Bounce for a more difficult tune or Straight No Chaser.

I love playing C Jam Blues and Watermelon Man (I like it better in E for guitar)in solo settings. Since they are on the list, I wouldn't worry about using them in an audition. I'd bet you could easily find the sheet music at your public library -- and the heads are easy enough to figure out yourself and then look up the chords online if neeed.

Songs like those really give you a chance to swing. The bop ones have a tendency to make players wanna burn, and they forget all about swinging. The wiggle their fingers up and down the scales and forget to tap their feet.
