Default I'm Old fashioned

A version I had submitted on Martin Taylor's site, inspired by his arrangement. Sorry about the poor video quality, this was recorded with my phone.

Very Nice the whole thing. All of those open voicings you threw in towards the finale of the tune where really tasty. Very nice playing Paul.

Default nice!

Hiya Paul, this is really nice! I love the "feel" of the improv. I hope you can come to to the reunion. There are only a few coming from our class but Ron Eschete, Joe Diorio, Don Mock, Les Wise, Howard Alden and Mundelle Lowe are all coming. It's going to be a real memory jogger for me.

Exceptional Paul. Very tasty. I agree wholeheartedly with Double 07 about those open voicings - a technique often overlooked in jazz...

Double 07, Howie & Tony, thanks a lot for your kind comments! I appreciate it.

Howie, I really want to go to the reunion. I'm trying to arrange my schedule so I can do it. Hope to make it and see you there.

Paul

Great playing. I heard a number on influences in the arrangement. Have you ever heard Johnny Smith play that tune? There are a few phrases that I hear from that arrangement in what you've done. I also like what you did with the tempo changes.

Yes, actually I had learned Johnny Smith's version a few years ago, so his influence is definitely there. I may still have Johnny's version written out in chord-grid form somewhere. If I can find it I'll share it.

Paul, if you can still find the Johnny Smith arrangement and wouldn't mind sharing it, I would be eternally grateful. Johnny did the tune in the key of A but I'm playing it in the key of F since it's a much better key for my voice. Thanks so much for your help.

I've attached JS's arrangement. I did it back in the 90's when the 'Legends' CD first came out, and it's in chord grid form so you'll need the recording for reference.

Regards,

Update: Sorry - I seem to be unable to upload the arrangement successfully. I've tried pdf, bmp and doc formats, but all files fail to open after the upload.

Paul
