Default Chord melody how-to

It's hard to beat this site for a step-by-step guide to making a chord melody.

It's annoying as hell with that stupid MIDI guitar in the background that you can't turn off. And the webpages themselves look like they were made in 1994. It makes it hard to look at.

The concepts are fine, but nothing I didn't already know. It was nice to see the ideas laid out in step by step fashion though.

I use this approach on all my chord melodies. If the melody is more dense I reduce it to 1/2 note targets, which I call melodic maps. It's a good process to get out of block chord thinking. I trade these bass / melodic maps with a fellow guitar player and we fill in the spaces and interpretations differently. It is great fun to compare results.

I think it would be a cool thing to do on the forum.

The midi is playing the examples on each page in sequence.

I think it's a good way to demonstrate the building of the chord melody.

It's for beginners obviously and not meant advanced players.

I think the point is more that it is annoying when you can't turn the midi player off. They could have set it up where you had to push something for it to stop and it would be fine.

What people who design their own webpages often fail to realize is that their pages are like a store. If it's not laid out well and hard to read the menu, or if there's a TV blaring in the background and you can't turn it off, people won't come back.

I'm not dissing on you Drumbler at all, and I think the steps laid out in the site you linked to are good, but this is 2011 and the bar has been raised for webpages.

OK, I'm off my soapbox now. Back to real life.
