Joe Pass Improvising chordmelody with basslines

I think that you can manage to improvise with chord and melody or with walkingbass and chords with some practise, but to improvise chordmelody with walkingbass on guitar is to take it a step longer!

I try to manage it with using inventions, substitute and to start very slow with several jazzstandards. (Instead of just make one or two "incredible arrangements") When you starting to manage it just try with a little higher tempo.

It would be fun and interesting to talk about this and listen to other guitarplayers who really want to improvise in this way and not only make arrangements!

I have done two sologuitaralbums "Late that night" and "Two days in august"
You will find them at Amazon.com MP3 downloads, Itunes, Spotify etc.

Youtube: Out of nowhere with me on sologuitar!
Moments notice, a little bit tricky!

It would be nice if someone will talk with me about this or recommend other guitarists to listen at!

I'm not sure I got what you mean, but if it is what I think it is, then I'm like a wannabe-newbie on this path (and I'm light years away from where you are, seeing you're at the recording level).

The only guitarist I know for that is Charlie Hunter (Nice technique but I don't like his work).

Other such guitarists I've been recommended on this forum (but haven't been able to check out yet, unfortunately) are Ted Green, Jimmy Wyble, Gene Bertoncini, Howard Morgen, George Van Eps, and Sonny Silva. (bet you know them already)

You might want to check out the organ players - Barbara Dennerlein, Jimmy McGriff, Jimmy Smith, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jack McDuff, Charles Earland, list goes on and on. I think they do this kind of stuff a lot, Barbara Dennerlein in particular. (I'm always floored by her technique, plus her improv is really fast paced and pretty groovy IMO.)

Mark Elf does walking bass and single note lines. Check out his New York Cat's CD. He does 2 tunes that way on this CD
