Help Chord Melody Confusion

I often hear the term chord melody used in various contexts and I'm just wondering which one is the "correct" definition. For instance, sometimes I hear chord melody in a context that implies it is only to be used while playing with a band. Other times, it seems to imply a solo performance. As for me, I use chord melody as if it implied solo guitar. Is there a distinct definition or is this just semantics?

Well, the defination that I was taught, and teach to my students, is this:

Chord Melody: When a guitarist harmonizes the written melody to a tune with one or more notes. The harmony can be above or below the written melody, and the chord melody can be played both solo and/or with an ensemble. If the guitarist continues to use chords as the basis for his/her soloing in an improvised cotext this concept is called a "chord solo".

That's just my take on it.

The chord melody solo in Diana Krall's 'you're Looking at Me"-That is pretty close to perfection. Is it Anthony Wilson?
