Default Satin Doll- Easy Chord Melody Arrangement

Here's a Satin Doll chord melody arrangement that is pretty basic and uses standard jazz chords. There's a video demo and 2 step by step video lessons to go with it, that is freely available. I just ask for your email so I can keep you posted on future arrangements.

There's also a lesson on the Lessons page that shows jazz chord diagrams that I use for many of my simple arrangements.

This is great! Very playable!
Thanks for the free download, good initiative!

Now I can add Satin Doll to my solo-repertoire.

Great, glad you liked it! I'm aiming for a library of easy to play arrangements to start with, then we'll start to expand on them. But I'd like you guys (and myself) to be able to play a bunch of songs all the way through.

Some very nice sounding chords, and video suggestions Will. Thanks for posting this.

Enjoy!

Very good simple arrangement that sounded great. I had trouble playing the barre chords in that key so I transposed it up 3 fretts. I'm looking forward to your next post as your arrangement was fairly easy to play and will be easy to embelish as I learn more. Thankyou for sharing.

Thanks Steve!
That's what I am aiming for. I haven't seen any others that are this quickly playable. I have others there and am working on more but am fairly busy now that my job has started.

I'm curious what bar chords you had trouble with specifically and why so that I can possibly make them easier for you and others. I have a few ideas about some alternate voicings that could be used.

Hi Will,
I have trouble with barchords from the 10th frett onwards, but this is probably my technique, I'm working on it at the moment. I couldnt get the barred note on the B string to ring correctly. I did notice that your guitar has quite deep cutaways, mine isnt so deep but its probably me.

Default difficult chords

That's a good point. That guitar is cutaway and has 24 frets, originally meant for shred

I'm working on alternate chords for a variety of playing issues. For example the Dm7 chord at 10th fret could be played as Dm7 at 5th fret (5th string root) x-5-7-5-6-5 or at 3rd fret x-x-3-5-3-5 without D in bass. Or make use of open strings like the D string. I'll have a look at the arrangement and see if I have any other suggestions. But changing key is one alternative.

Sometimes the melody will discount certain chords from being used as you can't let the chord ring and hit the next melody note, but there are usually workarounds.

Thanks! haven't heard that one offhand that I can remember. It's so much fun to play a relatively easy arrangement but still make beautiful music. I'm working on new ones and using basic jazz chords works in most cases with a bit of planning. Some xmas tunes coming!
