Help "Sanctuary" by Wayne Shorter

Hi there!

I wrote down the melody of Wayne Shorter's "Sanctuary" from his 1988 live recording (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWstCK17yzo). The tune was originally writen in 3/4 time, but has been performed in rubato and 4/4 time in later executions. The song has been recorded on Miles Davis' "Bitches Brew" and "Circle in the Round" and Wayne Shorter's "Footprints - Live".

The transcription lacks the chord changes. It sounds to me like the piece is built on a modal jazz harmony, which doesn't employ any of the traditional II-V-I cadences, but forms different modal centers in relation to the D pedal note. The modes include: D altered dominant scale; D Ionian or Lydian mode; D Dorian mode; D Lydian dominant mode; D Phrygian mode. Still, I haven't seen any reliable transcription of "Sanctuary" and would like to hear your comments about the harmony.

Best regards, Ville
