| | Location? Good Day All,
I have been doing an awful lot of networking ( for lack of a better term) lately and I have noticed that the appeal and appreciation of what I call jazz is greater in Europe than it is in the United States. I was born and raised in New England, spent 10 yearrs in the Army where I lived all over the US and the world. After that I lived in Hawaii for 21 years. I now live in the midwestern US. I intend to spend the last quarter of my life as a trubadour musician. I love all genres of music but jazz is my passion. I have no "strings" attached as I am a childless widower. I can pack up and move anywhere and I would like to know if Europe is the last great jazz fronteer. Any thoughts? |

| | Not sure about Europe, but NYC would be your best bet in the States. |

| | Having to choose between Hawaii and NYC, I know what my choice would be. Sorry, jazz!
EDIT: and as for Europe, I'd wait to see if there's any Europe left after the euro disintegrates

| | Jazz in Cardiff. I can't speak for Europe but I live in Cardiff, capitol city of Wales...
There are several venues that have jazz gigs around the city every week, in a wide variety of jazz styles...
I Also know of 6 jam sessions a month in and near Cardiff, there may be more that I don't know of...
Bear in mind that Cardiff is a fairly small city, I've heard London is good for jazz, but I've never spent enough time there to find out for myself...
I hope this was at least a Little useful to you...
[p.s. First post, as this was the first time I've read anything I felt I could add to.] |

| | Thank you for you thoughts on this gentleman. Food for thought.
But I think I will leave New York to the New Yorkers. |

| | Mainland Europe is very open minded when it comes to new music. Jazz is greatly appreciated but don't think about earning much if you're in the UK. There's a great scene here but paying gigs are hard to come by and, as I said recently in another post, the BBC is backing away from its jazz commitments. That said we have some great festivals here right across the country.
Good luck, hope it works out for you. |

| | What do you mean by "I would like to know if Europe is the last great jazz frontier"? Where jazz is appreciated? Where jazz in unknown? When there lots of jazz cats to see?
How about this for an idea: live somewhere you'd like to anyway, in a small enough place that you can open a coffee house and people will have no choice but to go there. Have a stage and make yourself the house band! |
