Newbie! Warm greetings from Shadow

Warm greetings to all fellow jazz guitarists! I'm new to the forum so let's play nicely and be friends .

A litte bit about myself, I used to be a metal shredder / neoclassical guitarist, but like many guitarists out there, I discovered jazz / fusion about 4 years ago and never looked back !

The funny thing about me is that despite not playing the shred stuff anymore, I still use my Ibanez super-strat type guitar to play jazz (maybe it's cus I've been playing it for so long and I'm more comfortable with it) which gets me a lot of weird looks sometimes. Just out of curiosity, anyone out there use a similar heavy metal-type guitar as well to play jazz?

Dunno if this counts, but I use a cheap Strat knockoff, and happily. It's lightweight, the neck is perfect, and just replacing the neck pickup with a Seymour Duncan Cool Rails gives me the tone I want. Along with a good tube amp of course,w/ a master volume I never use. You have to use what makes you happy.

Haha I like the sound of cheap strat knock offs! I have this little fantasy of having a guitar showdown with some spoilt kid with an expensive Gibson and then kicking his ass with a cheapy Made in China guitar with only 5 strings

Welcome Shadow. Jazz doesn't care what guitar you play it on, as long as you play often. She is a demanding partner.
